Kilimanjaro Mountain Descend by Helicopter

Safety is our absolute priority. While we hope you never need it, RAO Tours partners with specialized helicopter rescue services to ensure a swift and safe descent from the mountain in case of medical emergencies.
How it works
In the event of severe altitude sickness (AMS) or injury that prevents a climber from walking down, our lead guide will contact the rescue coordination center. The helicopter can reach most designated landing zones on the mountain within 20-40 minutes (weather permitting).
Coverage and Costs
The cost of a helicopter evacuation is typically between $2,000 and $3,500. This is why we insist that all climbers have travel insurance that covers emergency evacuation. If your insurance is verified beforehand, the service is usually "cashless," meaning the rescue company bills your insurance directly.
Available Landing Zones
Helicopters can land at several strategic points on the mountain, including:
- Shira Plateau (3,800m)
- Barranco Camp (3,900m)
- Karanga Camp (3,995m)
- Barafu Camp (4,673m)
- Kibo Hut (4,700m)
Rest Assured: Our guides are equipped with satellite phones and radio communication to ensure that help is always just a call away.
