Standard Mount Meru trekking circuit via Miriakamba and Saddle Huts.

Day 1
Arusha Gate to Miriakamba Hut
2,514m4–5 hrs
Enter Arusha National Park and begin trekking through tropical montane forest. Your armed ranger escorts you through wildlife territory — expect giraffes, buffaloes, and warthogs. Arrive at Miriakamba Hut (2,514m) for dinner and overnight.

Day 2
Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut
3,570m4–5 hrs
Trek through moorland and giant heathers with opening views of the crater. Optional afternoon acclimatisation walk up Little Meru (3,820m) for sweeping panoramas. Stay overnight at Saddle Hut.

Day 3
Summit Push — Socialist Peak (4,566m)
4,566m6–8 hrs up + descent
A midnight start (midnight or 1:00 AM) for the dramatic summit push. Trek along the narrow crater rim with views of the ash cone far below and Kilimanjaro across the clouds. Reach Socialist Peak at sunrise. Descend all the way to Miriakamba Hut.

Miriakamba Hut to Arusha Gate
Descent to 1,500m3–4 hrs
Final descent through the forest, with last wildlife encounters before exiting the national park. Transfer back to Arusha for a well-deserved celebration.

How does Mount Meru compare to Kilimanjaro in difficulty?
The summit day of Mount Meru is actually steeper and more physically demanding than most Kilimanjaro routes. However, at 4,566m the altitude is lower, reducing the risk of serious altitude sickness. Overall, it is comparable in physical challenge to a Kilimanjaro Machame day.
What wildlife will I see?
