From the legendary snows of Kilimanjaro to the volcanic wildness of Mount Meru — RAO Tours plans expeditions of a lifetime, guided by the mountain experts who live here.
Tanzania is home to two of Africa's most extraordinary trekking mountains. Whether you dream of standing on the snow-capped summit of Kilimanjaro at sunrise or want a raw, wildlife-rich alternative on the slopes of Mount Meru — RAO Tours brings the expertise, passion, and care to make your mountain adventure a success.
Our pole pole (slow slow) philosophy, KPAP-certified porters, and expert local guides ensure you reach the summit safely — and come home with memories that last a lifetime.
Two extraordinary peaks. One incredible country.

The Roof of Africa · 5,895 m
As the highest free-standing mountain in the world, Kilimanjaro offers a once-in-a-lifetime trekking experience. Choose from six distinct routes — Machame, Marangu, Lemosho, Rongai, Northern Circuit, or Umbwe — each offering unique perspectives across five ecological zones, from tropical rainforest to arctic glacier.

Tanzania's Hidden Gem · 4,566 m
Africa's best-kept trekking secret. Towering over Arusha National Park, Mount Meru rewards climbers with jaw-dropping sunrise views of Kilimanjaro across the clouds, dramatic volcanic crater landscapes, diverse wildlife including giraffes, buffaloes, and colobus monkeys — all with a fraction of Kilimanjaro's crowds.
Six distinct paths to the summit — we help you choose the right one.

Safety, ethics, and expertise — built into every expedition.
We are proud members of the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project, ensuring fair wages and ethical treatment of all mountain crews.
All expeditions carry pulse oximeters, emergency oxygen, and acclimatization checks by certified mountain wilderness first responders.
Our guides are born and trained on these mountains — speak multiple languages and hold WMFA certifications with 10+ years experience.
Nutritious, delicious hot meals prepared at altitude to keep your energy levels optimal throughout the climb.
Everything you need to know before setting foot on the mountain.
No technical climbing experience is required for either Kilimanjaro or Mount Meru. Both are trekking mountains. Good cardiovascular fitness, determination, and a positive attitude are the most important requirements.
The two best trekking windows are January–March (clear skies, cold summit nights) and June–October (dry season, excellent visibility). December and early January can also be rewarding with fewer crowds.
You should be able to comfortably hike 5–7 hours a day with a daypack. We strongly recommend 3–4 months of consistent cardiovascular training before your expedition. Our "pole pole" (slow slow) philosophy gives you the best chance of success.
Altitude sickness (AMS) is the number one challenge on Kilimanjaro. Our longer 7–8 day routes are specifically designed to maximise acclimatization time. Our guides monitor oxygen saturation daily and we carry emergency oxygen on all expeditions.
Our mountain specialists are ready to match you with the right route, date, and package. Fast responses guaranteed.
